Where in the world is Belize?

June 9, 2002
We have arrived in Belize! It is rather hot, but we are managing. We had an uneventful trip and arrived in early afternoon - Belize is 2 hours behind Mohawk.
It took around an hour and a half to get to Roaring Creek from the airport. We went to see a bridge across the river here and stopped by baby Faith's grave on the way back. She is buried right in her parent's front yard. It was very moving to see her grave.
Tomorrow is another day. We will begin the construction project and also begin making plans for VBS and our revivals. Pray for us as we begin work.
In Christ's love and in His service,

Greetings from Belize! Your mission team had a wonderful day. We got one wall of the house almost finished. It will be erected tomorrow. The construction team is ahead of schedule!
Our VBS went wonderfully. We visited the Nazarene and Catholic schools and their principals announced our VBS. The children came straight from school without going home first. We had about 100 children and 20 first-time decisions for Christ!
We purchased 2,000 pounds of rice and 400 pounds of beans. We bagged up what we could and passed out the rice to people who are descendents of the Maya. They were blessed, but we were tremendously blessed to minister to these people. We passed candy out to the children which they enjoyed tremendously.
We saw several people at the clinic. One little boy has a chicelero worm. It is passed by fly larvae and has attached behind his left ear. Left untreated, the worm will continue to burrow into him until it attaches to a major artery which would cause him to bleed to death. The medicine had to be purchased in Guatemala. His mother had been putting ashes on the wound.
Pastor Larry and Scott will be speaking at a school two times tomorrow. Pray for them as we minister to these children and seek to disciple them. Our revival services start tomorrow night as well. Please pray for us.
Pray for us tomorrow. God is so good and has blessed us so tremendously. Please pray how God would have you become in carrying the message of Jesus around the world.
In Christ's love and in His service,
2002 Belize Mission Team

Today we had a very productive day. We have the house under roof with majority of the siding on and we are plumbing the bathroom now. The mother and one son is digging the septic pools now the mother is doing most of it by herself. We will be pressed to finish tomorrow due to lack of lumber.
We have packaged all 2000 lbs. of rice and 1300 lbs. of beans and we will finish distributing the rest tomorrow.
We have purchased 14 bikes and assembled them today and will deliver them tomorrow to needed adults to ride to work in Belmopan.
Bible school was very successful. The building will not hold all the children at one time, so we have to have class out side and inside to get all the children accommodated. We had over 200 today, with over 30 decisions.
The medical clinic was rolling today. Charlie came today and is doing great. He is actually smiling now, we plan to give him one of the bikes.
We gave the gifts to the sponsored children today and we wish you could have seen the smiles on their faces. The children here have the biggest, brightest, brown eyes you have ever seen and when you give them even a piece of hard candy it is like they have been given a million dollars. It is UNBELIEVABLE!
Sorry about not e-mailing yesterday. We worked HARD and we went to revival, which was wonderful, and the 2 hour time difference just didn't allow the 2 mile walk to the Digman's house. (Where our internet access is).
Pray hard that we finish the house and all other projects we intended to do.

We are all totally worn-out, but we are loving every moment of it. We gave bikes away, distributed the remaining rice and beans, held VBS in the Las Flores village, and completed the house 98%. Tonight is the last night of revival and it is doing great. There were alot of decisions made and we are praying they are going to be plenty more.
We have plans to finish up on the house tomorrow and then go see the country.
Everyone is working really hard and learning skills they didn't know they had. This team has had a eye, and heart opening experience. We will never forget the faces and the friends we have made. There is such a huge need for everything and there is no one to help them. There is no work for adults and if there was it is so far away that it would take walking 3 hours to get there. The government doesn't help anyone except themselves. The missionaries here are some peoples' only hope. The people here are God loving and happy people, it is just amazing. The children here are the ones to suffer the most. We have attached a photo of Reina, Bob & Sharon.
We gave a girl a bike today, her name is Reina Elizabeth ?,. She told us God had blessed her with 3 days of work a week cleaning houses. She supports her mother and 4 brothers and sisters. Her father died when hit by a bus riding to work one morning on his bike. She said she would like to continue school but had to work. She has finished the 4th grade and she is 20. We gave them plenty of rice and beans for this week. So you can see the need here, it is heart wrenching!
Pray for us as we finish our house up and for a safe journey home. See ya soon...

Greetings from Belize. We had a good, hot day today. We finished the houses plumbing and electrical systems today. We laid linoleum and got table and chairs for the family. We made curtains and hung them in the bedroom doorways. They finished making the shutters and hung the door. The mother had swept and mopped the floor and was running the neighborhood kids out of her clean house. It looks great.
Some of us went sight seeing and saw alot of the country.
We have looked at a needed site for a home and are looking forward to come and do this all again. Hope you will be here then.
We are all looking forward to get home and see our families. Pray for a safe trip.
We are expecting to return to Concord around 12:30 a.m.. Watch e-mail for changes in flight schedule. See ya tomorrow.

Thank you for your prayers and support. God blessed us beyond our wildest imagination! We look forward to returning in 2003 to build another house for a needy family. Information will be posted on our Belize page as it becomes available. If you would like to have team members speak in your church, please send email to pastor@concordbc.org and we will schedule a Wednesday night service when we can come. Continue to pray for the people of Roaring Creek and Las Flores and for the people God will send in 2003 to show His love to them.
